I am new this blog as this is my first ever blog and first ever post. Eeek!!
I am currently in the process of trying to complete a Textiles degree. I am on my first section; A Creative Apprach and am about to start Part Four.
I have, up until now, been typing up my notes on my work and printing them out and sending them off to my tutor. I would quite like to keep this as a more detailed version, but from now I plan to also write up my thoughts and upload some of my work using my new blog.
I have at times felt that the work becomes overwhelming, but you do get through it, it the end and with enjoyment. I have found that as I progress through the course material folder, each section I seem to manage it more effciently.
I have not long ago completed my A Level in Textiles. I was planning on going to University but I didn't want to move away from home and there were no courses that I felt met exactly what I wanted to study, in my area. My father unfortunately got made redundant in December 2011 meaning that I had to keep my job. This meant that studying with the OCA was the place for me.
Working in a school already, I spoke with some of the sixth form teachers about how distance learning degrees are seen and to get advice with what I should do. As I want to become a teacher in a Secondary School, their opinions meant a lot to me. The head of sixth form explained how there is a lot of competition when applying for jobs and choicing a University is sometimes the difference between one candiate or another. This raised concern, wondering if completing a distance learning degree would set be back from those getting a degree from the top Universities. After a lot of thought, I decided to go ahead with the OCA because I wasn't sure what other option was left for me, baring in mind that the fees per year have gone up by so much.
